International Christian University
ICU has been a pioneer in liberal arts education in Japan since its founding in 1953. Japanese and English are the official languages of ICU. This bilingual commitment reflects ICU's internationalism and the promotion of mutual understanding and exchange. Japanese and English courses are offered. ICU's Japanese Language Program is one of the world's best, and helps students, from beginners to advanced learners, acquire the skills needed to succeed academically and professionally. At our wooded campus in Tokyo area, students and faculty with a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds study, work and live together and learn to serve the needs of an interconnected world. Students can explore a wide range of academic disciplines from 31 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. ICU was ranked as the leading private university in Japan in the Times Higher Education's Japan University Rankings in 2019-2021 and 2023.
